After returning from Formula Student Austria, our team had only two days to fix the issues that came to light during the Austrian competition. This was crucial, as between August 1 and 6 we also competed in the Formula Student East event, held at the Hungaroring.
On Tuesday, August 1, our team moved into the campsite next to the Hungaroring and, following registration, we immediately completed the Accumulator Scrutineering and Pre-Inspection. The latter essentially required us to demonstrate that—in case of an emergency—we have all the necessary equipment readily available.
Wednesday focused on the static events. Cost and Manufacturing, Engineering Design, and the Business Plan Presentation were all held on this day. Meanwhile, the rest of the team rushed to the track to occupy the designated pit boxes. In parallel, Mechanical and Electrical Scrutineering also took place, although we were unable to fully complete both by the end of the day.
Thursday turned out to be exceptionally eventful. Part of the team arrived at the Hungaroring early to finish the scrutineering tasks left from the previous day. After successfully completing them, we proceeded with the Driver Egress test, followed by the Weight, Tilt, and Rain Tests.
On Friday, after passing the Brake Test, the dynamic events began. Although our car competed in both manual and autonomous categories at FSEast, only the manual events took place that day. We started with Acceleration, followed by Skidpad. We also completed an official timed run in Autocross, though we received a minor penalty during the post-event Scrutineering due to a small rule infraction.
After completing the EBS (Emergency Brake System) test, the fifth day marked the moment when our car showcased its capabilities in the autonomous category as well. Following a successful Acceleration run, we attempted Skidpad—which evaluates the vehicle’s steady-state cornering by completing two laps in each direction on a figure-eight track. Unlike Acceleration, however, we were unfortunately unable to score points in Skidpad.
For the final day of the competition—Sunday—three more events remained. The day began with Endurance, where our team delivered an excellent performance. This was followed by Trackdrive and then Autocross (both in the autonomous category), though we were unfortunately unable to score points in the latter.
To close out the nearly week-long Formula Student East event, we joined the other teams at the award ceremony. Due to a minor misunderstanding, we did not receive our prizes on the spot, but after informing the judges and organizers, the issue was resolved quickly. On August 11, we were officially announced as the overall dynamic winners, and we also claimed first place in Endurance. Considering the entire competition, our team finished in 4th place, missing the podium by only a few points.
Unlike our previous competitions (Formula Student Easter and Formula Student Austria), the event held at the Hungaroring provided our car with the opportunity to compete in the autonomous category as well. Although the results were not as strong as we hoped, we remain proud of our achievements. The work, however, does not stop—we are already focusing on addressing the issues we encountered so that at our final event of the season, Formula Student Germany, we can perform with even greater strength and deliver the best results possible.
