2024 – FRED-003 „2OE”
Our 2024 car, named 2OE, is an improved version of its predecessor, Zoe. The tried-and-tested manual and self-driving modes integrated into a single car remain. Reusing the carbon composite chassis from the previous year, the aerodynamic package remains unchanged with the exception of the diffuser. All the electronics in the car have been updated, moving to a 24V system. In addition, the self-driving (DV) and vehicle dynamics control (VDC) software has been made more robust. Minor modifications and weight reductions were also made.

2023 – FRED-003 „Zoe”
On the 12th of June 2023, we unveiled Zoe, our race car for the 2023 Formula Student series. Zoe is an electric EV/DV vehicle, which means it can compete in both manual and autonomous events. 2023 was a special year for our team, as we were able to compete in the Trackdrive event in the self-driving category for the first time in our team’s history.

2022 – FRED-002 „Lola”
On May 23, 2022, we presented our Formula Student race car for the 2022 season at the Hungaroring, which was not only beautiful, but also extremely fast, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.4 seconds. The special feature of the car is that it can operate in both self-driving and manual modes, so unlike in previous years, we can start with one car in two separate categories.

2021 – FREC-010 „Ajna” & FRDC-003 „Ro2i”
Our 2021 car, Ajna, developed for almost two years. It was the lightest FRT racing car to date, not even weighing 190kg at the start of the season. With this car, we also managed to break an FRT record in the Formula Student East race, where we finished third out of 27 starting teams.

The 2021 self-driving car was made from Rozi (She was the year 2020 car). This car could be driven in manual mode, with which we were able to take part in a race at the Hockenheimring in Germany. Although we faced many problems, we gained very useful experience for the year 2022.

2020 – FREC-009 „Rozi” & FRDC-002 „Batmobile”
In 2020, we returned to the old concept and built two racing cars. Rozi was close to the 500-pound dream limit, but unfortunately we couldn’t compete with her because of the covid epidemic.

We took part in a Hungarian professional test day with our self-driving car, Batmobile, with the other Hungarian FS teams, where she easily took on the obstacles in front of her.

2019 – FRED-001 „Melody”
In the race season of 2019 we set the aim that instead of two race car we are going to build one, which is going to be able to compete in electronic and driverless category as well. This conception was carried out with a driverless pack, with which we were able to stand at the race line in different categories with our race car, Melody. We reached the goal, therefore we could compete in the race in Hungary, Italy, Germany and in Spain. On the Hungarian race we became the 18th in overall, and on the others we were in the top 10 teams, from the 50 competing team.

2018 – FRDC-001 „One Ryde” & FREC-008
In the year of 2018 a huge shift happened in the team’s life. During the competition season we built not only one, but two cars: one electric and one driverless race car. Because of the increasing tendency towards building driverless cars, and the development of technology, the team decided to build a driverless race car, and thus we became the first team in Hungary who decided to do so. The car, named „One Ryde”, and converted from the 007, competed in two different countries in 2018.

It required massive concentration and focus to build two cars, but finally we succeeded to create FREC-008. Our new car has an internally developed accumulator, which consists of 288 LIPO cells. Till now we consider it as our lightest car ever, since it is around 221 kilograms. Fun fact: the FREC-008 is our first car that can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in less than 2,8 sec.

2017 – FREC-007 „Honey Ryder”
The FREC-007 got its name after the famous Bond movie’s iconic female actress, Honey Rider. One of the cars outstanding achievement is that it has done 686 km since it was built. For comparison, this distance is 31 times the distance of the Endurance discipline. Honey Ryder’s frame structure was designed by us, and it comprised of a carbon composite monocoque with steel roll bars.

2016 – FREC-006 „EMM4” and FREC-005 „EMM4”
In the season of 2016, the team continued to race with the vehicle concept that was presented in 2015. This decision was made mainly because of the goal from the previous year, and also in order to be able to build upon the already acquired experience with the concept. Due to this we were able to participate at four different competitions, and ended the season with great results.

The year of 2015 offered so many great opportunities for the team. “EMM4” got its name after the British actress Emma Watson. Since FREC-005 is our first race car that is AWD, this is creatively shown in its name as well (the number 4 is symbolizing this). With this action we decided for significant development. We were 8th team in Europe, who have chosen to build four wheel drive electric race cars. The only goal for this year was to set a base for our team so they can easily shoot for the top of the podium at any 2016 Formula Student competition.
2014 – FREC-004 „Michaela 2”
The name remained in 2014, but the performance and the results have changed. The most striking change in ’Michaela 2’ was the aerodynamic package of the front and rear wings, as well as the diffuser. These innovations were capable of producing clamping forces, resulting in higher speed, shorter braking distance and acceleration. The complete aerodynamic package resulted in a 1000 N clamping force at 72 km/h and 270 N air resistance, which reduced the given lap time by 5-10%.

2013 – FREC-003 „Michaela”
The name FREC-003 came in a Czech trip. The team was inspired by a Czech bartender girl called Michaela at the local Formula Student competition. The 2013 car was characterized by a hybrid frame: it had a carbon composite monocoque in the front and a steel tubular frame in the back. Michaela took part in two prestigious tournaments: in Hradec Kralové and in Győr.

2012 – FRC-005 „Maula 2” & FREC-002 „eMaula”
The technical content of the year 2011 racing car (Maula) contained many opportunities, according to the team’s engineers. The concept was given, and after revising and developing the plans they realized that there is a chance to create a more successful racing car than ever before. Despite the fact that the car’s main geometrical parameters are almost the same as the previous year’s vehicle’s (FRC-004), there were countless new things in the car. Significant and striking innovation was the use of wider tires, that provide better grip. The main goal was to reduce mass, so the team redesigned the well-known upright shafts.

In 2012 the well-known name ’Maula’ has turned up again, but the FREC-002 racing car had a completely new robe. Just like Aranka, this car was also designed for electric drive, as its name ’eMaula’ shows. Compared to the first electric car (FREC-001) its weight has dropped about 250 kilograms. In addition its acceleration has improved remarkably: it accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 s, and was able to reach the speed of 180 km/h depending on the final gear ratio.

2011 – FRC-004 „Maula” & FREC-001 „Aranka”
The FRC-004, also referred to as “Maula” in the FRT jargon, is the team’s 2011 racecar, which is 20 percent lighter than its predecessor, only 225 kilograms. This is accompanied by an 85 hp engine, which is a major step forward in the car’s dynamic dynamics. In the spirit of development, all the components of the car have improved, compared to the previous ones: the components are made using more sophisticated materials, the built-in Dexler differential is the best solution available for the Formula Student race car, and the engine management is also performed by the well-known MoTec system. The team has completely redesigned the gearbox and improved the chassis geometry for months with the help of simulation software.

In 2011, a team created its first electric race car, which get to known as Aranka. The racecar itself accelerated from 0 to 75 km / h in 5.2 seconds and she weighed 425 kilograms. The young engineers have developed their own rechargeable battery, which contained 84 A123 cells.

2010 – FRC-003 „DiVA”
The FRC-003 is the first race car of the second generation of the Formula Racing Team. The plans of the FRC-003 – after the name of „Diák Versenyautó”, often referred to as the DiVA – was already completed in 2009, and they were successful at the Silverstone event, where the car raced a year later. During the months between the two contests, the team has made great progress in project management and in the use of various engineering software. The members have reconsidered and redesigned for multiple times the car, and eventually built a cleaner car, which finished in the 20th place in England and became second in Formula Student Hungary in Győr. With DiVA, the members of the FRT have found their way to the top of the university teams, so the car became a milestone in the team’s history.

2009 – FRC-002 „Cube”
Compared to its predecessor, the FRC-002 has become a better planned, and on the project level a more efficiently produced race car. The members of BME FRT made a 50 kilogram lighter car, than the previous one for the 2009 season, which had more sophisticated and thoughtful technical solutions. However, in the races some mechanical problems occured, as the team members said, they couldn’t get to know well enough the settings of FRC-002. The reason for this was, that the design and construction of the car began very late, as the necessary financial resources were not at the disposal of the team, so the preparation of the FRC-002 took place before the hockenheim race.

2008 – FRC-001 „Justin”
The first car of the BME Formula Racing Team, the FRC-001, was built for the 2008 Hockenheim competition. The first car of the students was a pioneer in all aspects, as the primary goal of the students was to gather experience and establish the future. Unlike the later racecars, in the case of FRC-001 the car frame was first built, as it was a prerequisite for the team to get green. Thanks to the hard work of the last weeks, the FRC-001 was completed for the Hockenheim competition, where the BME FRT became the second most successful rookie team.
